ABOUT ROOSEVELT HIGH SCHOOL OF PIDDIG INC.

Our Background

The Roosevelt High School was founded in 1935 by Justo A. Arquero (b April 7, 1895), Jose P. Pimentel (b March 19, 1906) and Emilio E. Ventura (b August 9, 1892). The school was named in honor of the US President at that time, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It must be noted that it was at that time that President Roosevelt signed the Commonwealth Act, which created the Commonwealth Government of the Philippines. The President's First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, sent an address to the three founders, which went: "I am very glad to sent the enclosed autographed photograph. My hope is that all of the young men and women graduation from Roosevelt High School will go out into the world or into higher institutions of learning with as much sense of responsibility as my husband".

The three founders were all educated in prestigious university in the United States. Mr. Arquero obtained his degree in Bachelor of Arts, Major in Education and English, at the University of lowa. He later took his postgraduate studies at the University of Chicago. Mr. Pimentel pursued his degree in Education at the University of Oregon. and Mr. Ventura obtained his Business degree at the University of California, Berkeley School of Business.

These three men of vision had common dream of giving back to the town of Piddig, where they all grew up, and of providing a way for the youth to obtain an education locally. It was at that time that local students had to travel the 18 kilometers to Laoag City for their secondary education. More than anything, the three men wanted to share the education they obtained in America. They had big plans for the youth of Piddig, hence, they recognized the possibilities of a better life through education.

And so it was, in March 4, 1935, that the three men founded the Rroosevelt High School, with the approval of Department pf Commerce and the Bureau of Private Schools. The school's mission  on wich it was founded was:

                     1.   To give a better chance for the young people of Piddig and other neighboring towns to obtain higher education.

                     2.    To help elevate the moral, social, economic and educational standards of the people of Piddig; and

                    3.     To alleviate the challenges of unemployment.

Mr. Ventura became the school's first President. Mr. Pimentel was its first Treasurer. And Mr. Arquero was its first Principal.

The founders served Roosevelt High School until God loving called then to rest in peace. Their respective families are as committed as their patriarchs, from the children of Mr. Arquero (and his wife Annabella), Mildred, Mary Lou, Teresita, and granddaughter, Justine Dianne... the daughter of Mr. Pimentel, Ruth and his granddaughter, Michelle... and the niece of Mr. Ventura, Braulia, and his granddaughters, Maria Reyna and Rizza.

The Principals who succeded Mr. Arquero after his passing were Mr. Modesto U. Clemente(who Later on become a long-serving Sangguniang Bayan Member and VIce Mayor of Piddig), Miss Braulia F. Ventura (now a US Resident), Maria Reyna S. Ventura-Siason (now also living with her own family in the USA), and Roy C. Pandaraoan (now with the Department of Education Public System). Dr. Teresita A. Wingco, daughter of Roosevelt High School's first Principal, with Mrs. Rose Amy C. Madamba as assistant Principal-Registrar.

On September 2, 2014, the school has changed its name to Roosevelt High School of Piddig Inc.
